Great game with last minute drama. Really feel for Newcastle as they deserved the 3 points as they played really well and Liverpool were sloppy. -Newcastle will be fine this year, never really got it when people tipped them to go down. -Newcastles attack were so quick, caused liverpools defence so many problems, especially the full backs. Thought Frimpong was particularly poor today, didn’t give Liverpool anything. -Wissa was exceptional, best I have seen him in a Newcastle shirt. Caused Liverpool so many problems as he was finding holes between the midfield and defence and dictating play, leading to that great second goal. -Lewis Hall did a great job today, sadly gave away the equalising penalty but he locked up that right hand side all game. -Victor Munoz looked bright and very direct when he came on, don’t think it will take long for him to be starting or he could be a great impact sub. -That Newcastle intensity hasn’t left even though half their team has left and manager but they lacked control when they were holding on to that lead meant Liverpool were always going to get chances. -Newcastle will be fine though, good point for a side practically written off before the season. Definately one to grow from as all then new signings looked good. -For Liverpool, good point at a tough place to go. Clear they need better attacking depth, just got to build on that with Iraola at the helm.

Man City v Bournemouth

-Took city about 75 minutes to get into this game. Bournemouth looked really comfortable until city realised they were 1-0 down. -I was impressed by Bournemouth though, Antonio Silva looked comfortable in that back line and Marcus Tavernier looked threatening. -City looked really shaky at the back in the first half. Leaving lots of spaces in behind for Rayan and Tavernier to run into and them being wasteful going forward meant counter attacks happened often. -Rayan Cherki changed the game. Gave city more control around Bournemouths box which suffocated them and a brilliant ball for gvardiols winner won the game for city. -I thought Semenyo was very wasteful today, kept taking players on and not really going anywhere with it which is unlike him. -Bournemouth should be fine for this season, they’ve kept their best players from the end of last season and new signings look good so they should be thereabouts again this year. -For city, write the performance off as dusting off the cobwebs. Good 3 points against a tough side to beat so definitely one to be happy with. Just got to keep up with Arsenal which I am unsure they will do.

Brentford v Tottenham

-Brentford were so good today, so fluid in their passing and the speed they were able to go from defence to attack was the best part of their game. -Spurs defended terribly, specifically van hecke who was getting bullied by schade in an aerial battle. Going forward they had nothing, no one ruthless enough to take the game to Brentford. -Spurs still looking weak as they did from last season, felt the game was over at 1-0. -Standout for me was Sangare today, he was everywhere. Also offered alot going forward with his driving runs which led to the first goal. -Janelt also deserves a mention he was a rock, bullied spurs midfield and kept Brentford ticking across the whole game. -Backline of Ajer and Collins never looked troubled, felt it was a steady game for them both. -Great start for Brentford, their new signings looked bright and still have the ability to beat the big boys. Should be well in for a chance of Europe this season. -For Spurs, a game to forget and move on. Still have a lot of starters to come back and a few signings in the attack and they should see improvements. Need a bounce back win next week.

-Arsenal looked really good, the new signings seemed to gel well to Artetas system and that solidity that arteta has ingrained is still there. -Tzolis was a stand out thought he looks really good on that left hand side, Bruno G did the basics right and got a good 45 minutes in the tank. -Odegaard was my MOTM, was more ambitious than what we are used to and looked really sharp plus that goal was taken beautifully. -Arsenal were clearly more up for it than city were, city created chances but were sloppy. It is only the community shield so we can’t judge too much based off this game but we do know Arsenal will be up there again this year.

Welcome to the premier league Coventry 😅. Arsenal really showed their levels in this game and played like champions, looked a lot more settled and felt like men against boys today really. Here are my key takeaways from this game: -Coventry, like any other club, really struggled to break through that press that Arsenal set up in, leaving Simms really isolated at times which gave Arsenal turnovers every time Coventry managed to get out their own box. Awoniyi looked much better at holding the ball up, showing his premier league experience. -Tzolis looked exciting yet again, positive every time he got on the ball. He linked up really well with Odegaard today. -Lewis-Skelly was quality today, really showing how good he is in this midfield role. His ability on the half turn creates so many opportunities for Arsenal and shows why Arsenal shouldn’t be selling him. -Odegaard looks like a different player these last 2 games, so much more aggressive with his passing. If Arsenal can get this version of Odegaard every game they’re going to look so much more fluid going forward. -Tchaouna was Coventry’s spark today, looked like he was really giving it a go and being aggressive with how he went forward. -I don’t think either team can judge their season based on this game. Obviously a step in the right direction for Arsenal, carrying on their form from last season but against a newly promoted side who lack the quality to test them it’s hard to judge just how well they’ll do this year. For Coventry, toughest game of the season on the opening day isn’t ideal and these were never points they were targeting to gain. Big game next week against Hull.
